Berlin Philharmonic Fills Trumpet Position

Starting on September 1st, there will be a new face within the trumpet section of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. André Schoch, will be joining the orchestra after a short stint as Principal Trumpet in the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra. Schoch has held this position since 2013 and studied with Gábor Tarkövi at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Academy.

Even though this is an addition to the section, Berlin will also be holding an audition for Principal Trumpet in 2018. One of the current Principals, Tamás Velenczei, will still play with the Philharmonic but not in the principal slot. According to an April 2017 interview with Velenczei, Martin Kretzer will retire at the end of Berlin’s season.
