Berlin Philharmonic Names New Principal Horn

After much anticipation, the Berlin Philharmonic has named David Cooper as one of their new principal horns. According to the Hornisten der Berliner Philharmoniker’s Facebook Page, the photo above is captioned as:

“Meet the new principal horn of the Berlin Philharmonic! Congrats dear David Cooper!!”

Berlin has a special set up in that the brass (except tuba) and woodwind sections have two principal positions. Stefan Dohr, the other current principal, is still with the orchestra. Cooper is currently Principal Horn with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and also won the Principal Horn position with the National Symphony in 2013.

Congratulations to David Cooper!
