Brass Soloists To Perform With St. Louis Symphony

In less than a month, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will be featuring not one, but two of their brass musicians in a “one-night only”concert. One of the works performed will be the orchestral premiere of James Stephenson‘s The Arch for Bass Trombone and Orchestra. This piece will be performed by Gerry Pagano, Bass Trombone of the SLSO. The other brass soloist will be Julie Thayer, Fourth Horn with the SLSO. She will be performing the Nocturno for Horn and Orchestra written by Franz Strauss.

This performance will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017, in Powell Hall. Other pieces on the program include:

  • Weber – Der Freischütz Overture
  • Walton – Crown Imperial (Coronation March)
  • Mendelssohn – The Hebrides (Fingal’s Cave)
  • Debussy – Clair de lune
  • Tchaikovsky – Capriccio Italien

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
