Chicago Principal Trumpet to Take Leave of Absence

In an article from the Chicago Tribune, recent news has surfaced that Chris Martin, Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will be taking a leave of absence to temporarily fill the first chair for the New York Philharmonic. Click here for the full story. In Riccardo Muti’s words,

“I spoke with Chris Martin today. He is very close to the Chicago Symphony but he wants another experience (away from the orchestra). So we shall see. Change is natural in symphony orchestras. The important thing is to find replacements who are very good. Everybody wants to play in the CSO, so I’m not worried.”

If one remembers their orchestral trumpet history, another famous Chicago trumpet player also joined the ranks as Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic for a storied career.
