Former Brass Band Conductor Dies at 73

Michael Antrobus, a world renown brass band conductor and a former leader of the famed Black Dyke Band, passed away in a hospital in Oslo on October 23, 2016. In 1978, Antrobus started a two-year stint as the resident conductor of the Black Dyke Band. It was during that time that he organized major tour appearances to Germany and Norway which led to his eventual move to the latter. His final conducting appearance with Black Dyke was in 1980. After his move to Norway, Antrobus became very instrumental in developing the current state of the Norwegian brass band. He conducted many Norwegian ensembles including Manger Musikklag, Eikanger-Bjørsvik, Stavanger Brass Band, and Tertnes Brass, and many others. His final conducting appearance occurred in 2015 when he led the Lunds Brassband during the Swedish National Championship.
