LA Philharmonic Names New Principal Trombone

csm_Cantero_David_Rejano_5ca1c9afc1After a few years of not naming a Principal Trombone, the Los Angeles Philharmonic has picked their new leader of the low brass section, according to several sources. David Rejano Cantero will be joining the orchestra starting August 15th as its new Principal Trombone. Many wondered who would fill this role after Nitzan Haroz went back to Philadelphia following his two-year stint as LA’s Principal Trombone.

Over the course of the past two years, many top-rate trombone players filled-in, including Jorgen Van Rijen, Principal Trombone of the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. Two of his major highlights with LA were performing Mahler’s Third Symphony as well as performing on the Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert. Van Rijen ultimately decided to stay in Amsterdam.

David Rejano, a native of Spain, has been the Principal Trombone with the Munich Philharmonic since 2010 and has also performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris, and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.

Congrats to David!
