Nairobi Orchestra to Premiere Tuba Concerto

Compared to other orchestral instruments, tuba concertos are rarely composed let alone performed in public settings. Recently though, we have seen the announcements of two concertos being written for some of the great tuba giants of today.

This weekend, the Nairobi Orchestra will be giving the world premiere of a Tuba Concerto written by Kenyan composer Njane Mugambi. The premiere will be performed by Jennifer Wanjala, the tubist for the Nairobi Orchestra. The two-day performance (June 17th and 18th) will be conducted by Duncan Miano Wambugu.

In addition to this world premiere, the orchestra will be performing the following pieces:

  • Sibelius – Finlandia
  • Marquez – Danzon No. 2
  • Mussorgsky/Ravel – Pictures at an Exhibition
