Need A Brass Repairman?

This was an incident from May of 2017,

This Facebook post went up the day before I had an audition (insert big-eyed emoji).

The story: In May of this past year, I flew from Columbus, Ohio to Raleigh, North Carolina two days before audition day. With poor negligence on my part of gate checking my horn, the horn stayed in Baltimore (my layover) rather than coming with me to Raleigh. Once I received my horn the next morning (the day before the audition), there was some slight dents in the bell and the valve levers were slightly bent in a non-usable way. Obviously needing a quick fix, I turned to social media asking ANYONE of a good repairman.

Within minutes, I received a recommendation to go to Mike Morse in the Durham area (it pays to have over 1,000 friends on Facebook). I called him and within a few hours he had the horn fixed and in better shape, pre-catastrophe. This got me thinking about having resource that brass players can go to QUICKLY that can alleviate internet searching for those “quick fixes.” (Side note – I did win the audition after the horn was fixed).

Introducing the Brass Repair Directory!

With Last Row Music thriving on simplistic listings, I have created a list that includes brass repair shops across the country and the world. While a majority of LRM readers are from the United States, it is quite beneficial to have list of international repairman in case the need may ever arrive. For many of us, we really like sending our instrument to a specialized repairmen, so the hope of this list is to include technicians that deal PRIMARILY with brass instruments.

How Do I Add My Favorite Brass Technician?

It’s simple. Go to this form – also at the bottom of this post – to enter five items:

  • Name of Technician
  • Name of Shop (if applicable)
  • City, State (For international, enter City and Countryl)
  • Contact Info (email address or website or social media page)
    • Something that is linkable
  • Other Pertinent Information (such as a physical address if a brick and mortar store)

Then…

SAVE the directory to your mobile device, computer, laptop, or tablet.
