Podcast #1: An Interview with Jim Self

Welcome to Episode #1 for the Last Row Music Podcast!

Special thanks to NoVo Management and Publicity for setting up this interview.

At the beginning of 2017, I started writing a series of posts entitled “Know This Brass Player” which featured famous brass players that have had a significant contribution to the brass world. Recently, I received an email from a music promoter stating that Jim Self had come out with a new album featuring tuba and guitar music. The promoter mentioned that he could set up an interview, and one thing led to another – here we are!

Purchase Jim’s newest album featuring music for tuba and guitar!

This was a special treat as the sound of Jim Self has been featured in over 1500 movies – everything from Close Encounters of the Third Kind to Finding Dory. In our conversation, we go into detail about how he got started in the music business, how he got his first big break (in a John Williams movie!), how the fluba became a part of his collection of instruments, and what projects he is working on today – including a new album of tuba and guitar music!
