In reports from April 2016, Chris Martin, Principal Trumpet of Chicago Symphony, had taken a leave of absence to perform as Principal Trumpet with the New York Philharmonic.

Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune published an article stating that Martin is officially resigning from his position with Chicago to take one of the other high profile positions in an American orchestra. Martin has been performing with New York since the beginning of this current season, and has periodically gone back to perform with Chicago. His resignation was effective on Wednesday of this week.

This now makes three openings in the legendary Chicago brass section as the Principal Horn and Associate Principal slots have not been filled. No word has been received as to when Chicago will hold its Principal Trumpet audition.
