Legendary Scottish Trumpeter Retires

john-gracie

After 35 years with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, John Gracie played his final concert yesterday as a member of the famed trumpet section. Grace currently teaches trumpet at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and will continue to do so after his orchestral retirement. If you are familiar with the film music of Jerry Goldsmith and Elmer Bernstein, you most likely have heard John Gracie’s recognizable sound tower over the rest of the orchestra. In addition to film music, Gracie is the principal trumpet when Neeme Jarvi conducted and recorded the famous Mahler and Shostakovich cycles with the RSNO – then known as the Scottish National Orchestra.

Congratulations, John, on a successful career, and we wish you a happy retirement!
