Tuesdays on the Tube: Cincinnati Pops and Baseball

Tonight is Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game, this year being held in Cincinnati, Ohio (my home state). The sport of baseball is considered America’s Pastime, and I try to watch the All-Star Game every year. Many great moments have occurred at these All-Star Games and so many legends of the game have been honored.

Last night, the ‘home team’ was represented in the Home Run Derby by fan favorite, Todd Frazier – Third Baseman for the Cincinnati Reds. Through a bracket system, Frazier was able to win the Derby by hitting 15 home runs in the Finals. It certainly helped to have the Cincy fans behind him the whole way. Here is a video of people (including Todd Frazier) giving their support to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra through a video piece singing Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy.’ Frazier’s part in the video can be found around the 1:37 mark.

How does this tie into a blog post about music? The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has been participating in the All-Star festivities this week, including a National Anthem performance by the CSO Brass Quintet. Here is an article written in their local newspaper about the Seven Ways the Cincinnati Pops Connect with Baseball.

Every now and then, the Cincinnati Pops Brass Quintet perform at a Reds game during the season. This week’s video features the quintet performing God Bless America at a game back in 2013.
