Tuesdays on the Tube: Denson Paul Pollard

When I started seriously playing bass trombone a few years ago, I scoured the world of internet for a good bass trombone warmup. The first one I found was Denson Paul Pollard’s warm-up routine. It incorporated so much of the “total bass trombone” that I still use it today almost on a daily basis. Everything from long tones to Charles Vernon’s low register studies to super high notes that some student bass trombonists may not feel like is necessary (believe me, bass trombonists need to be able to play high notes!).

This video is from the 2014 Dutch Bass Trombone Open, a biennial event ONLY for bass trombonists that is held in the Netherlands (seriously, they don’t allow any tenor players). The video is about a half hour long, but listen to it, then watch it again and play along. You will be glad you did.
