Tuesdays on the Tube: David Maslanka

A few days ago, the music world lost an illustrious composer known for his melodious works for the wind band. David Maslanka’s music not only inspired the listener but also the performer with his music. In addition to his over 150 wind compositions, Maslanka wrote works for chamber groups as well as for solo and piano. The trombone community is fortunate to have a concerto written by this composer. Maslanka’s trombone concerto was written in 2007 for Gary Green and Tim Connor who were from the University of Miami (FL) at the time of the premiere.

While the video below is not from YouTube, it still gives an excellent representation of this work that triggers the emotions of reality as well as memorializes those who have gone on before us. Please enjoy this performance given by the Northwestern Symphonic Wind Ensemble with Michael Mulcahy as soloist.
