Tuesdays on the Tube: Monarch Brass

The International Women’s Brass Conference, an organization that has been around for a number of years, seeks to promote and inspire women brass musicians around the world. Founded by Susan Slaughter – the first women named a Principal Trumpet in a major symphony orchestra – the IWBC holds a conference every few years that brings women (and men) together for a few days of sharing brass music. With sessions, concerts, and competitions, the IWBC is furthering the power of music through the brass musician.

With this event, an assembly of some of the most well-known brass players come together to form the Monarch Brass Ensemble. Members of this all-women group come from orchestras, military bands, college/universities, and professional freelancing careers. Below is a video featuring their most recent performance at the 2017 IWBC held at Rowan University. While this video features the entire concert, I have included the start time of each track in the comments section of the video.

Included in this concert was the World Premiere of The State of Mind, a composition written by Dorothy Gates. Take a listen to an excellent ensemble and mark your calendar for the next IWBC – May 21-25, 2019 at Arizona State University.
