Principal Trumpet Vacancies in Two Major Orchestras

Both the Chicago Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras have announced they will hold auditions for their Principal Trumpet slots. Chicago’s opening came as no surprise as former member, Chris Martin, resigned from his position in February to become the new Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic.

For Pittsburgh, the Principal position is becoming vacant by its current member, George Vosburgh (ironically, a member of Chicago’s brass section before he took the job in Pittsburgh). From an management standpoint, this is a good financial sign for Pittsburgh considering their painful strike that occurred last year. Much of the bargaining agreement considered whether or not to fill current vacancies.

These two auditions have been posted on LRM’s Trumpet Auditions page, and may not be posted to the orchestra’s websites as of this writing.
