Byström “Screen Memories” Trumpet Concerto with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra

Elias Grandy, conductor
Tine Thing Helseth, trumpet
Giuseppe Verdi: Overture to The Power of Destiny
Britta Byström: Screen Memories, trumpet concerto
Robert Schumann: Symphony No. 2
Tine Thing Helseth is one of the foremost trumpeters of our time, with a unique ability to touch the hearts of her audience with her distinctive trumpet tone and musical delivery. It is no wonder that composers want to write music for her, including the highly acclaimed composer Britta Bystrøm. Trumpet Concerto No. 2, titled “Screen Memories”, was written for Tine Thing Helseth in 2013. The title is both a nod to psychology and Freud’s theory of “screen memories”, but also references to both a Danish composer and the singer Donovan. Come to a concert and become more enlightened, and enjoy trumpet playing in a class of its own.
And speaking of psychology, Robert Schumann’s mental state varied greatly throughout his life. When he began his 2nd symphony, he was in a mental trough, but whether it is a new will to live that characterizes the symphony or whether it is the music itself that brings him out of his depression, The light and courage that shines through Symphony No. 2 is one of the strongest moments in music history.
The beginning is actually tragic, but it is mostly if you know the plot in The Power of Destiny. In the Aulaen, we let the drama unfold instrumentally in Verdi’s fabulous music.
After the concert: Join Korktail with Etikketaten!
At this concert, Kork and NRK present a brand new “after concert talk”. First up is Etikketaten, the NRK program where big and small dilemmas are debated by an engaged panel. This time, a creative panel takes the stage to take a closer look at the much-discussed artist’s soul. It will be about big dreams, delicate souls and dilemmas one encounters in the music world.
The panel includes the trumpet soloist herself, Tine Thing Helseth, together with Alexander Jensenius, professor of musicology at the University of Oslo and Einar Duenger Bøhn, professor of philosophy at the University of Agder.
Buy an extra ticket and get a complete evening with like-minded music enthusiasts, interesting conversations and not to forget: something good in the glass. Then you can also try a Korktail, specially made by one of Oslo’s renowned cocktail bars, and only for Kork’s audience that day.
Location: Domus Bibliotheca right next to the Aula.
Price: NOK 50,- in addition to the concert ticket (see ticket categories)
NOTE: Limited number of tickets.
The event lasts from approximately 7:30 PM-9:00 PM.
