Maxine Troglauer and Ebba Åsman with the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra

March 29 @ 6:00 PM EET

Two young guest soloists bring new nuances with them to UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra’s Silent Music concerts during Easter 2024. These two rising international stars, the German trombonist Maxine Troglauer and the Swedish trombonist and singer Ebba Åsman, perform for the first time in Finland.

The concert programme contains music with ambient influences from the genre space between contemporary jazz and classical music. The music fits well with the themes of the Holy Week and showcases the intense beauty of the trombone in different ensembles, from a trombone duet to a 20 man strong big band.

The conductor Ed Partyka arranges and composes new music for this concert series and the unique concert venues.

Live stream! The concert will be streamed and can be watched for free at Yle Areena and at UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra’s mobile app and website live or later on-demand.

Classical music, jazz, contemporary music – for Maxine Troglauer (b. 1995) these are not genres that can be meticulously separated. They are organically interconnected resonance spaces that give the bass trombonist the opportunity to engage in a self-confident dialogue with the past. Troglauer does not think in clichés, but recognises possibilities. Her declared aim is to free her instrument from its niche and help it to develop its own repertoire. www.maxinetroglauer.net

Trombonist and vocalist Ebba Åsman (b. 1998) plays with everyone from Nils Landgren and Brooklyn Funk Essentials to Molly Hammar and Broder John. Playing and embracing different genres has made it natural for her to intertwine ideas from different styles, while keeping the music feeling organic and vibrant. She started composing from her ears and heart and ended up including layers of choir, soundscapes, and put a lot of effort into creating the right atmosphere.
