Simon Trombone Concerto with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra

Principal trombonist Austin Richardson and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra perform Carlos Simon’s “Troubled Water” concerto for trombone and orchestra. Written in 2023 for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and its principal trombonist, Ken Thompkins, Simon’s concerto is inspired by the many stories, accounts, and experiences of enslaved people seeking freedom at any cost on the Underground Railroad. The program of all American music will also consist of Florence Price’s “Ethiopia’s Shadow in America”, Samuel Barber’s Symphony no. 1, and Aaron Copland’s “Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo.”
