Tuesdays on the Tube: Louis Armstrong in the Recording Studio

Recently, the New York Post published an video that shows the world some exclusive visual footage of the famed jazz trumpeter Louis Armstrong in the recording studio. This clip, acquired by the Louis Armstrong House Museum, features the “Satchmo” recording his well-known song “Satchmo plays King Oliver” for one of his albums in 1959. Notice at the :06 mark, he almost comes in early with the vocals.

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
