Southern Methodist University Adds Additional Brass Faculty

On October 31, 2018, the SMU Meadows School of the Arts released news that four musicians would be added to their esteemed list of faculty members. Of the four positions, three were in the brass department.

Ryan Anthony, a former adjunct lecturer of trumpet for SMU, is moving to a new role as full-time visiting professor of practice in trumpet as well as chair of the brass and woodwind area. Anthony is the principal trumpet of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and hosts Cancer Blows, an event featuring an all-star cast of brass musicians who raise money and bring awareness to research for blood cancer and multiple myeloma.

Kevin Finamore, second trumpet with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, is now SMU’s new adjunct associate professor of trumpet. Finamore has been a member of the DSO since 2000 and received his degrees from the Juilliard School and the UNC School of the Arts.

Haley Hoops, second horn with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, is moving from her former position as adjunct lecturer of horn to the new position of adjunct associate professor of horn. Hoops has been an SMU faculty member since 2001 and a member of the DSO since 1999.

Barry Hearn, the principal trombone with the DSO, has joined the SMU faculty as adjunct associate professor of trombone. Hearn will be sharing duties with John Kitzman, the former principal trombone of the DSO and currently, a longtime faculty member at SMU.
