A brass-filled concert with the Boston Symphony

It is always a treat when one solo brass instrument is the highlight of a concert. But when a concert series features three brass pieces, you know the audience will have a rare opportunity to hear magnificant pieces performed by truly exceptional artists.

On January 5th through the 7th, brass members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra will be performing works that sparingly get performed on such a big spotlight. The concert program includes the following pieces:

Nino Rota – Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra (BSO Premiere)
Toby Oft, Soloist

André Jolivet – Concertino for Trumpet, String Orchestra, and Piano
Thomas Rolfs, Soloist

Robert Schumann – “Conzertstück” in F for Four Horns and Orchestra
James Somerville, Michael Winter, Rachel Childers, and Jason Snider, Soloists

A piccolo concerto by Vivaldi and a concerto for two clarinets by Krommer are also on this first concert series of New Year. Ken-David Masur, an Assistant Conductor of the BSO, will be th conductor for this program.
