The Cleveland Orchestra Announces New Principal Trombone

After a four-year vacancy, the Cleveland Orchestra has appointed Brian Wendel to the Principal Trombone seat. Prior to joining Cleveland, Wendel was Principal Trombone of the Vancouver Symphony for five years. A graduate of The Juilliard School, he has won several international competitions including the Winds and Brass category of the Music International Grand Prix and two categories of the International Trombone Association.

In 2021, Wendel released his debut album This Is Home. This stellar album is filled with finesse and musicality of the highest calibre that includes music by Bach, Prokofiev, plus an moving original composition by Wendel.

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons.
