Septura Set To Release New Brass Album

A year ago, Septura made a recording, produced by John Rutter, of works by two great and contrasting composers of 20th-century America: Gershwin and Copland.

Both sound unmistakably American, but with distinct and unique musical voices: Gershwin’s constant blend of classical and jazz idioms results in a vibrant urban sound, whereas Copland’s music is folk-influenced and recalls more readily a kind of timeless mid-West Americana. Both composers had a real affinity for brass instruments in their writing, and so the transcriptions even of their orchestral works – whilst stretching the brass septet to its technical and musical limits – feel like an incredibly natural fit.

This recording was made possible thanks to funding from The Harbour Foundation, The Antony Hornby Charitable Trust, The David Wentworth-Stanley Charitable Trust, and Peter and Stella Vaines.

Septura is pleased to announce a release date for this recording: May 2021. That’s a bit of a while to wait, so in the meantime catch up with Septura’s recording of Gershwin’s An American in Paris.
