Tuesdays on the Tube: The Marsalis Family

The Adams. The Rockefellers. The Kennedys. The Bushes. The Bachs. The Mozarts. The Carters. The Jacksons. These are all names that we associate with the idea of a Dynasty. The longer the world separates itself from these names, the  more we realize how important each family’s contribution to society was during their time and for today.

The same goes with the Marsalis Family. It all started with the dad, Ellis, on piano in New Orleans when he took his boys to the clubs where he played night after night. Eventually each child picked up an instrument:

Wynton on Trumpet
Delfeayo on Trombone
Branford on Saxophone
Jason on Drums

Each artist has been able to develop their own name as musicians, but with the name Marsalis, this dynamic family has been able to create a dynasty before our very eyes. And what a treat it is for all music listeners.

Enjoy this collaboration of the family performing “Struttin’ with Some Barbecue.” Pay attention to how they feed (pun intended) off of each other during the passes of solos and bring it all back together as one unified ensemble.
