Trombones in Ohio (Part 5)

It has been a while since I have written anything about the trombone events going on in Ohio. Recently, Dr. Gretchen MacNamara from Wright State University hosted a trombone and horn festival which featured Megumi Kanda (Trombone) and Dietrich Hemann (Horn) of the Milwaukee Symphony as guest artists. I was not able to attend the event but saw it had great success.

On February 7th, I am very excited that Ohio University will be hosting their annual Ohio Trombone Day. Last year’s event was a tremendous success with Maniacal 4 as the featured guest artist. With such a great turnout last year, one can hope that this year will be another great event. The featured guest artist is the legendary Michael Davis. Considered one of the busiest trombonists in New York City, Michael Davis has a resume that is astounding from any musician’s perspective. Davis has been heavily involved with groups and artists such as The Rolling Stones, the Buddy Rich Band, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and countless others. You can read more about his biography and affiliations here. Even with his busyness as a musician, Davis has also dived into the entrepreneurial spirit by creating Hip-Bone Music, a publishing company that provides a variety of resources for all brass players.

I am particularly excited about this Trombone Day because I will be performing in a trombone ensemble with other colleagues on a piece with Michael Davis. The event will only cost $5 if you register before January 31st, and then $10 leading up to February 7th. The festivities start early Sunday morning and continue until 4pm (just in time to get home for Super Bowl 50).

If you are anywhere in Ohio, you will not want to miss this event in Athens. If you have questions, feel free to email Lucas Rego Borges, the host of Ohio Trombone Day, for more information. Visit this link to find out more about this exciting event!
