U.S. Air Force Trumpeter Passes Away at 24

News has been received that trumpeter Sally Tepper passed away on September 2, 2020, at the age of 24. Tepper was a member of the United States Air Force Academy Band.

A native of Hollywood, Florida, Tepper studied music at Baylor University under the tutelage of Wiff Rudd and Mark Schubert. While at Baylor, she was a member of the various music ensembles and was a multiple prize-winner of both solo and ensemble competitions at the National Trumpet Competition. Tepper also was a member of the National Orchestral Institute and performed with the Boston Crusaders. In 2017, during her senior year, Tepper won a position in the USAF Academy Band and, at the time, was performing with the USAF Falconaires, the Concert Band, and the Marching Band.

To remember her legacy, Baylor University has established the Sally Tepper Memorial Musician Wellness Fund and will begin receiving contributions on October 21, 2020.

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
