University of Texas Appoints New Trumpet Professor

On May 11th, the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas announced Billy R. Hunter, Jr., as their new Professor of Trumpet. His appointment will begin during the 2020-2021 academic year.

A graduate of the University of Texas and the Juilliard School, Billy R. Hunter, Jr. is currently the Principal Trumpet with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, a position he has held since 2004. In addition to performing, Hunter has held teaching positions at the Peabody Institute and the Manhattan School of Music. His teachers include Raymond Crisara (MET Opera/NBC Symphony), Raymond Mase (American Brass Quintet/NYC Ballet), and Mark Gould (MET Opera).

Jeremy Smith

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
