Known as the first release on Impulse! Records (catalog number A-1), The Great Kai and J.J. will be reissued through Verve’s Acoustic Sounds Series. Started in 2020, the Acoustic Sound Series takes some of the most iconic releases from the legendary label and offers audiophile-graded remasters that are transferred from analog tapes of the sessions.

Recorded in 1960 and then released in 1961, The Great Kai and J.J. features both J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding at the top of their game, backed by a star-studded section featuring Bill Evans on piano, Paul Chambers & Tommy Williams on bass, and Art Taylor & Roy Haynes on drums.
