Yamaha Selects 2022 Young Performing Artists Winners

For the last 33 years, the Yamaha Corporation of America has recognized outstanding young musicians by giving them national publicity to help them pursue their professional careers. Over 300 musicians have been selected through this program with many achieving successful professional careers.

Among this year’s winners included the following brass players:

  • Jacob Batchelder – Trumpet, Central Washington University
  • Kevin Flanagan – Tuba, University of Miami, Frost School of Music

Also receiving honorable mention were the following:

  • Amy Boedigheimer – Trumpet, Central Washington University
  • Jaehan Kim – Trombone, New England Conservatory of Music
  • Spencer Banister – Trombone, Oklahoma Christian University

Jeremy Smith

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
