Adler To Compose Tuba Concerto For Toledo Symphony

The name Samuel Adler is (hopefully) familiar to music students who have gone through the rigors of academic study at universities and conservatories. As the author of The Study of Orchestration, Adler, an emigrant from Nazi Germany to the United States, was a Professor of Composition at the Eastman, Juilliard, and North Texas music schools. Since retiring from the academic environment, Adler, now 90 years old, currently lives in the Toledo, Ohio, area.

Still active as a composer, Adler is currently working on a Tuba Concerto that will be performed by the Toledo Symphony Orchestra with David Saltzman as the soloist. This World Premiere performance will be given on October 20, 2018, at the Toledo Museum of Art with Alain Trudel as the conductor. Other works included on the program are:

Rimsky-Korsakov – Tsar Saltan Suite and the Flight of the Bumblebee
Borodin – Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor
Stravinsky – Firebird Suite
