Cerrone to Write Trumpet/Tuba Concerto for Cincinnati Symphony

Updated (3/28/21): This World Premiere has moved to April 9-11, 2021, and will feature a slightly different program than originally scheduled. See the bottom of this post for more details on each event.

As of August 14th, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) has cancelled all live performances through January 3, 2021, due to COVID-19. Instead of giving live performances in the fall, the CSO has been preparing for a “re-imagined season” that will include digital and pop-up performances for the rest of 2020. However, with the hope of returning to live, in-person performances in 2021, the CSO has scheduled an exciting new commission that will feature both the principal trumpet and tubist of their wonderful orchestra.

On April 2, 2021, the CSO will give the world premiere of Christopher Cerrone’s Concerto for Trumpet, Tuba, and Orchestra. Soloists for the concerto will be Robert Sullivan, the CSO’s Principal Trumpet, and Chris Olka, tubist for the CSO. Kahchun Wong will be conducting the two nights of performances which will include Aeriality by Anna Thorvalsdottir and Gustav Holst’s The Planets.

All events are subject to change, and we will try to monitor any updates regarding these performances.
