Detroit Symphony To Present World Premiere Trombone Concerto In 2023

On March 15, 2022, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) announced its 2022-2023 season. Filled with many wonderful masterworks and compositions by living composers, the season includes a new trombone concerto written by Carlos Simon for Kenneth Thompkins, principal trombonist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Thompkins, a member of the DSO since 1997, has performed as a soloist several times with the Orchestra, including Cindy McTee’s Solstice for Trombone and Orchestra.

Jeremy Smith

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
