An Illustrated Dictionary for the Modern Trombone, Tuba, and Euphonium Player Releases in November

Editor’s Note: The following news story was sent by Douglas Yeo, former bass trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and current trombone instructor at Wheaton College.

It’s not every day that a major publisher releases a new book about low brass instruments so I wanted to let you know that my newest book, An Illustrated Dictionary for the Modern Trombone, Tuba, and Euphonium Player (Rowman & Littlefield) is at the printer and will be released by November 1. The book has 675 entries on many aspects of low brass instrument history, evolution, pedagogy, performance, composition, and manufacturing. Part of Rowman & Littlefield’s series, “Dictionaries for the Modern Musician,” the book also includes 125 illustrations by Lennie Peterson. Several of our well-known friends, including Joanna Ross Hersey, Nathaniel Brickens, Byron Pillow, Jerry Young, and Larry Zalkind have enthusiastically endorsed the book.

Additional information about the book—how it came about, the subjects it covers, my collaboration with Lennie, sample illustrations, endorsements, detailed ordering information, etc.—may be found on an article about the book that I’ve just posted to my blog.

I hope this contribution to what we know and understand about our instruments will be useful to our low brass community, and as a textbook in low brass classes, and Rowman & Littlefield is offering a 30% discount on the hard cover and ebook versions of the book (there is no softcover edition). Copies ordered through Rowman & Littlefield will be shipped as soon as the book arrives in the warehouse which, I have been told, will be by November 1—or earlier. More details about this can be found on my blog article. If you find the book interests you, I’d be grateful if you’d pass on information about it to your library, friends, students, and colleagues through social media and other networks.

Pre-order the book from Amazon or Rowman & Littlefield.
