Louisiana State University Announces Katey Jahnke as Horn Professor

On May 13, 2026, the Louisiana State University School of Music announced Katey Jahnke as their new Assistant Professor of Horn, beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year.

Dr. Katey Jahnke previously served on the faculties of the University of Arkansas, Grand View University, Central College, Muskingum University, Marietta College, and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. As a performer, Jahnke served as principal horn with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas and the Arkansas Philharmonic. In addition, she has performed with ensembles such as the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, the Quad Cities Symphony, and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, among others. She is also a founding member of the award-winning Wild Prairie Winds chamber ensemble and performs with Magnolia Brass and the Sapphire Brass trio.

Jahnke received her music degrees from the University of Iowa, The Ohio State University, Bowling Green State University, and the University of Michigan, with her primary teachers including Jeffrey Agrell, Bruce Henniss, Dr. Andrew Pelletier, and Bryan Kennedy.

Jeremy Smith

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
