Matt Hightower Joins Brass Faculty at Indiana University
On February 23, 2026, the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University announced Matt Hightower as the Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium. Hightower’s position begins August 1, 2026
A graduate of Indiana University, Hightower is currently the Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Florida State University and has held similar positions at the University of Kentucky and Texas A&M University – Kingsville. In addition, he is the Principal Tuba of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Emerald Brass Quintet.
The position of tuba professor at Indiana has held a longstanding tradition, previously with Daniel Perantoni and Harvey Phillips. The Brass Department chair Joey Tartell says that “As this job broadens to include euphonium, we couldn’t be more excited to have Matt Hightower joining us. He is an excellent educator, tuba player, euphonium player, and composer. We’re happy to welcome him back to Bloomington.”
