New Website Focuses on Resources Related to Brass Injury and Prevention

Dr. Jena Gardner, Assistant Professor of Horn at Western Illinois University, recently built and designed the website BrassInjury.com that focuses on injuries and prevention related to brass musicians.

Branching off her dissertation topic “Applied Lesson Pedagogy: An Embodied Approach to Music Performance Learning and its Application to Teaching the Horn,” Gardner is completing extensive research into using pedagogical methods for preventing brass-related injuries. As a result, this new website contains resource categories such as Books & Articles, Equipment, Videos, as well as a list of Practitioners who specialize in performing arts medicine.

Having received a certificate in Essentials of Performing Arts Medicine from the Performing Arts Medicine Association, Gardner has taken her personal journey of injury and recovery, then combined her academic research to produce a valuable collection of information that is beneficial to any performing artist.
