Retired Morehead State Tuba Euphonium Professor Dies At 88

Dr. Earle Louder, Professor Emeritus of Tuba and Euphonium at Morehead State University, passed away on May 26, 2021, at the age of 88.

Louder, a native of Somerset, Pennsylvania, began teaching at Morehead State University (MSU) in 1968. Prior to his long teaching career, Louder was a 12-year member of the U.S. Navy Band where he gained stature as one of the great euphonium soloists. A student of the famed Leonard Falcone, Louder received his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University then continued on to Florida State University where he became the first person to receive a Doctorate of Music in Euphonium Performance.

In addition to teaching at MSU, Louder was on the permanent faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp for nearly 30 years. A founding member of the Tubists Universal Brotherhood Association (T.U.B.A.), now International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA), Louder received the Lifetime Achievement award from the Association in 1999.
