It is rare to see a brass quartet as a bonafide chamber group. Sure there is plenty of music out there FOR brass quartet, but how many times do you see an actual group that IS a brass quartet. The Westerlies (named after the prevailing winds going from West to East) is a brass quartet comprised of four guys from Seattle, Washington who all studied in New York City. Formed in 2011, this group is taking brass chamber music to new heights by performing American folk music, jazz, classical, and indie rock. In for The Westerlies to connect more with their audience, they rarely performs with music stands. In 2014, their debut recording was released and feature music from Wayne Horvitz. Their sophomore album to due out October 7th of this year. Click here to pre-order what anticipates to be a great second album.
