UNC Greensboro Music Administrator and Tuba/Euphonium Professor Dies At 56

Dr. Dennis Askew, former Director of the University of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG) School of Music, died on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at the age of 56.

According to the local Greensboro newspaper, Askew had been hospitalized due to pneumonia and bronchitis, and died from cardiac arrest.

Askew joined the UNCG music faculty in 1992, serving as the tuba and euphonium professor as well as the music education area. Eventually, Askew become the Director of the School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and helped guide the School through many transformative years.

A graduate of the University of Michigan, Penn State University, and the University of Georgia, Askew was a well-known tubist throughout the world having served as President of the International Tuba Euphonium Association and performed in many concerts across the globe.
