9 Forge Ahead In The Brass Category Of The International Tchaikovsky Competition

After a semifinal that included 16 contestants, the jury for the brass category selected 9 to advance into the final round of the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Tubist Daniel Barth (Germany) and trombonist Kelton Koch (USA) were both awarded a special prize as the best participants of the second round, who did not pass to the third round.

Gindina Ksenia and Glukhova Margarita were recognized as the “best accompanist” in the specialty of “Brass Instruments”.

The final round will take place on Thursday, June 27th at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. This final round will be accompanied by the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra and will start at 3:00 AM (EST).

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
