Conn Selmer Presents the Inaugural Vincent Bach Trumpet Competition

The inaugural Vincent Bach Trumpet Competition will take place in Chicago at the historic Fine Arts Building on November 16 and 17, 2024. This unique competition will challenge participants in a variety of musical settings including solo, chamber music, and orchestral performance. For the two-day competition, the general public will be able to attend the competition, masterclasses, and recitals. All events will take place in the Fine Arts Building.

2024 Judges

  • Esteban Batallán, Principal Trumpet, Chicago Symphony Orchestra
  • Dorival Puccini, Axiom Brass Quintet
  • Marie Speziale, former Associate Principal Trumpet, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra

Prizes

  • 1st Prize
    • A new Bach Trumpet (any standard model), $1,000, and a solo appearance with the Elkhart Symphony
  • 2nd Prize
    • A new Bach Trumpet (any standard model)
  • 3rd Prize
    • $1,000

Submissions will be accepted between August 1 and October 1.

Jeremy Smith

Jeremy E. Smith is the Founder and Editor of Last Row Music. He received music degrees from Grace College, Carnegie Mellon University, and The Ohio State University. Currently, Jeremy is the bass trombonist of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and performs throughout Ohio, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Smith is a member of the International Trombone Association and the Jazz Journalists Association.
