Hillary Simms and Brandon Ridenour Join the American Brass Quintet

In July 2023, the American Brass Quintet entered a new chapter of its 63-year history. Both Hillary Simms (trombone) and Bradon Ridenour (trumpet) were announced as new ABQ members joining current members Kevin Cobb (trumpet), Eric Reed (horn), and John Rojak (bass trombone).

With this announcement, Hillary Simms becomes the first female member to join the roster of the American Brass Quintet and thus, with the Quintet’s residency at The Juilliard School, becomes the first female trombonist to join the faculty at the prestigious institution.

For Brandon Ridenour, joining ABQ and returning to his alma mater – now as a faculty member – gives a “full circle” perspective having graduated from Juilliard before traveling with the Canadian Brass and embarking on a solo career.
