Tuesdays on the Tube: Trombone Concerto by Tim Higgins

In November 2021, Tim Higgins and the San Francisco Symphony gave the world premiere of Higgin’s Concerto for Trombone. The events leading to that point took much longer than anticipated with the original premiere scheduled for October 2020. Due to the pandemic and what felt like a much longer timeframe, that event was postponed more than a year later.

For Last Row Music, I interviewed Tim regarding his concerto, and one particular line that stuck out was “The biggest advantage is that I don’t have to write anything I know I can’t play!” Fortunately, a year after the premiere performance, Higgins performed the concerto again, this time with a piano adaptation.

with Keisuke Nakagoshi on piano.
