London Symphony Principal Trumpet Joins The BBC Symphony

Philip Cobb, one of today’s leading trumpeters, has recently been appointed to the Principal Trumpet position with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, leaving behind a decade-long career with the London Symphony Orchestra.

A prodigy whose musical skills were forged through the Salvation Army brass bands, Cobb studied trumpet with Paul Beniston and Alison Balsom at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. As a 21-year-old student at the Guildhall, Cobb won the Joint Principal Trumpet position with the London Symphony.

Since then, Cobb has still been active in the brass bands and can be heard on numerous London Symphony recordings, as well as many motion picture soundtracks, and recordings with brass bands as a featured soloist.
