Berlin Philharmonic Promotes Section Member To Principal Trumpet

Over the past few seasons, much shifting has occurred in the brass section of the Berlin Philharmonic. Back in April of this year, the orchestra held Principal Trumpet auditions, and the winner of this coveted position came from within the section. Guillaume Jehl, former section trumpet was promoted to Principal Trumpet and will join Gábor Tarkövi in sharing the Principal positions for this illustrious orchestra starting in the 2018-2019 season. Jehl has been with Berlin since 2009 and previously held positions with the Basel Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France. Tamás Velenczei, the former Principal Trumpet, still remains with the orchestra but has moved to become a section member.

This allows for the trumpet section to be filled while the horn section still has three positions to audition.
